DVR and blogging

July15

The problem with having a DVR and blogging is that when I try to write during the commercials Grant asks me to fast forward them. Then the movie/show is back on and I don’t want to write again. So I have this dilemma. I know big freakin’ deal.
Tonight, Susan is out at a RS meeting. Normally that means that I stay home with the boys and we do nothing significant. This is a special week so I decided we would go out. A quick change of the car seats and we were ready to go. We drove up the road to REI so I could look at bicycles. Before we were even out of the neighborhood Tucker had fallen asleep. I carried him, asleep, on my shoulder around the store. Grant ran around trying to hide so I didn’t get to look at everything I wanted. I saw just enough to realize that bikes are expensive.
We came home and Grant asked to watch Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade I had recorded some time ago. I moved us ahead to the spot we were the last time we watched it. I forgot that the at the end there seems to be quite a bit of religion. Grant asked, “Is Indiana Jones a member?” I asked, “A member of what?” He said a member of the church. Oh… No…, he isn’t. Then later when Indiana Jones has to step out into nothing (leap of faith) Grant says, “He’s starting to believe in God.”
So here we are movie over and not much to show for a night’s activities. Ahh, just like most nights.

the new blog

As if you didn’t already have enough to do then what is one more blog to read every now and then.

Jedi’s in Training

A new family blog. Together. Susan and I will both be posting items (once she makes me an admin). Now all the other blogs can include us on their list of favorites as Paul and Susan (or Susan and Paul) and we will fit in just like the rest of the blogging world. How cute!… barf…

4th of July

July4

Oh, what a busy day. We started early at a pancake breakfast that kicked off with the flag raising. Our activity on Wednesday was just practicing the raising. The boys did a good job.

The fire department across the street from the church was invited. Grant and Tucker went to see their trucks. They let the boys climb in and honk the horn.

For lunch we drove to a friends house for a birthday party. Tucker had new sunglasses since is previous pair broke. He was happy. This was my view from the front.

On our way home from lunch and the party we stopped to buy some fireworks. This is a new experience for us in Texas since all fireworks are illegal in Arizona (even sparklers). After the sun went down we broke out our stash. We had nothing fancy but two very excited boys.

Father’s Day

June15

I had a good father’s day. The boy’s and Susan surprised me with breakfast in bed. I thought of taking a photo of it but I ate it too fast. Blueberry pancakes, bacon, a fried egg and orange juice. Susan made lasagna for dinner and a cake that the boys helped decorate.

I am starting to like father’s day. It seems that one day a year I am someone and not just Grant, Tucker and Evan’s dad.

I thought I might include some photos of my dad. The first one is the entire family at that point. Sometime in 1980-81 before Amy was born. I am on the far left with long hair. My hair still makes that curl if it gets too long.

This is my father at work. The caption explains everything. I asked my mother where this one was taken and I think she said at that point he was working at a shoe store.

Evan, the new kid on the block

May15

Well it was a long night. We arrived at the hospital a little after 11PM. Susan got started with her IV stuff and hooked up to the monitors. She progressed nicely up to the point when he was ready to be delivered. The doctor arrived in the room at 4:05AM just as I was placing calls to work letting them know that this was really happening. The doctor checked for the baby’s head and found he was ready. She said, “Let’s do this thing.” Five minutes later we had a baby boy.
